How to Buy the Right Dining Table
Thinking of buying a dining table, but can’t decide what to look for? One can say that the dining table is the heart of the home. It is where the whole family gathers in the morning to begin their day and also the place where the day’s events are shared and the day is ended.
So finding the right dining table and chair set is not something to be taken lightly. The dining table has to be chosen to compliment the many different occasions it will be used for and also to compliment the different users – from babies to grandparent.
Deciding the dining table size
The size of the table will depend on how much space you have at your disposal, and where you want to place it. Will it be in the kitchen or in an small alcove adjacent to the kitchen. The dinning table is not just a place to eat, it is also the staging area where a great many feasts are prepared before the family dinner begins. The table should be big enough to accommodate your family while still leaving enough room to walk around. Ideally the size of the dinner table should be big enough for your family and a guest or two who drop by as well.
Dining table shape
Rectangle being the most popular shape, there are other shapes one can choose – round, oval or square depending on the amount of room that is available to you. Usually round shapes work better for small spaces. Square and rectangular tables are good for bigger areas. One drawback of round tables is that it can’t be used to seat more people, as the food becomes harder to reach at the centre of the table. Ideally go for round tables, only if you won’t have more than 6 people at a time. For more numbers better opt for a rectangular option.
Choosing a dining table style
You can choose from clean cut, minimalist styling or ornate antique styling depending on your fancy but make sure the table matches the décor of the room. You can experiment with the table top options though. Choose from granite, marble, different wood options. Whatever you do, choose a styling which reflects your tastes and matches the rest of your home.
Matching chairs with your dining table
If you are buying the chairs together in a set with the table then you needn’t worry. But if you are buying them separately, than you need to make sure they are the right height for comfortable seating and styling too needs to be similar if not exact. Buy chairs without arm rests as that way they can slide under the table when not in use. For even more seating options you can choose a backless bench to place alongside your table on one side or both sides.
A dining table is a long term investment which very well may even become a family heirloom. Research, go over all the options available and choose wisely before buying one.
